FAQs

How long are sessions?

Sessions are typically 45-minutes. Sometimes 60- or 90-minute sessions may be scheduled.

Will sessions be virtual or in-person?

Both virtual (tele-health) and in-person sessions are offered.

What will treatment be like?

The first few sessions will involve an evaluation of current problems, relevant history, and therapy goals. I will offer you my clinical impressions and a recommended approach to treatment, after which we will have an opportunity to discuss and confirm our plan.

The content and structure of therapy sessions will depend largely on the diagnosis and your therapy goals. I will work collaboratively with you to identify clinical priorities, practice relevant skills, and develop new strategies for approaching distressing problems. Sessions may include elements like reviewing at-home practice of skills since the last session, discussing and practicing new habits of thought, completing experiential exercises (such as exposure, or mindfulness), and planning for at home practice.

How long will treatment take?

There is no one-size-fits-all with regard to the length of treatment. Treatment duration depends on a number of factors including the number and complexity of problems you wish to address, and your specific goals. Some clients experience improvements through a short course of treatment for specific problems, somewhere around 16-20 weekly sessions, with follow-up or “booster” sessions as needed. Other clients chose to work on problems or goals that require a longer time commitment.

Do you prescribe medication?

As a psychologist, I provide behavioral treatments and cannot prescribe medication. However, I will work with your psychiatrist or prescribing physician to coordinate care. If you are interested in the option to start medication, I would be happy to discuss your options and, if appropriate, refer you to a prescriber.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider. This means that fees are due in full at the time of the appointment. Upon request, I will provide you with invoices for the treatment sessions and you may submit them to your insurance company for reimbursement. It is your responsibility to inquire if, and how much, your plan will reimburse you.

How much does treatment cost?

Initial phone consultations are free.

Given the specialized and efficient form of therapy you’ll receive with me, the total cost of treatment may be a fraction of what you would pay in other settings such as long-term talk therapy.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please give as much notice as possible so that I can offer the slot to another client. Sessions canceled with less than a 24-hour notice will be subject to a fee.
